Obituary for Gaylord Houghton

Gaylord Houghton
Gaylord K. Houghton, age 86 of Stanton, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 1, 2017.

He was born the son of Ves & Elsie (Overly) Houghton on July 31, 1930 and they along with a daughter, Joy and many brothers and sisters have preceded him in death.

Gaylord was one of those guys who when he put his mind to something it was going to be done and be done well. He enjoyed working with wood and building things with his hands. He also loved gardening and spending time outdoors, where he especially liked hunting and fishing. Gaylord and Pat also liked to travel and they were blessed to see much of the United States on their camping adventures. Gaylord is a Veteran having served in the Army during the Korean War. He retired from Federal Mogul in Greenville where he worked for nearly 40 years. He was also a member of Nevins Lake Bible Church and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Gaylord is survived by his wife of 64 years, Pat; son, Gaylord Houghton of Sheridan; grandchildren, Hilary, Heather and Josh; great grandchildren, Ava and Brayden; sister, Donna Groenke of Kent City and brother, Lloyd (Mazel) Houghton of Sand Lake.

Visitation with Gaylord’s family is being held on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 10 to 11 AM at the Simpson Family Funeral Home in Sheridan. Funeral services will begin at 11 AM with Pastor Tim Ross officiating, with final interment at the Trufant Cemetery.
